Why these are presets, not permanent platform laws
Social products can change upload handling and display crops. Check the destination composer before publishing. As of this review, Instagram says photos up to 1080 pixels wide retain resolution when their aspect ratio is between 1.91:1 and 3:4; 1:1 and 4:5 both sit inside that supported range. Pinterest recommends 2:3 or 1000 × 1500 for standard image creative and warns that taller ratios may be cut off in feeds. See Pinterest’s current product specifications. X says a single photo using a standard ratio between 2:1 and 3:4 displays in full; square, 4:5, and 16:9 are inside that range. See X Help for posting pictures.
Protect the caption from cropping and interface controls
Keep the text block inside the central safe area rather than touching the canvas edge. Full-screen interfaces place controls near the top and bottom, while feed previews and multi-image posts can crop differently. Use the editor’s direct drag or position sliders, then inspect the exported file at phone size before publishing.
- For 9:16, keep names, punchlines, and logos away from the top and bottom interface zones.
- For 2:3 Pins, avoid relying on text at the extreme lower edge where previews or overlays may compete.
- For 16:9, check that text remains readable when the image is shown as a smaller inline preview.
- For a carousel or gallery, confirm whether the first image’s orientation affects the remaining items.
Choose format as well as size
- PNG: safest default for crisp outlined meme text and transparent exports.
- JPEG: broadly compatible for photographs where transparency is not needed.
- WebP: efficient for destinations that explicitly accept it.

Do not resize twice
Repeatedly saving a JPEG and resizing it in another app can soften the outline and introduce artifacts around letters. Select the destination ratio first, place the caption inside that canvas, and export once from the original uploaded image.
Final pre-publish check
- Open the downloaded file, not only the editor preview.
- Confirm the pixel dimensions and that no text is clipped.
- Preview it in the destination app without immediately publishing.
- Move or shorten the caption if the app’s crop or interface hides meaning.
